Blessings in Disguise

My sisters both had their babies, within two weeks of my own. Jonathan was born on the 23rd of Sept, a Wed, and my oldest sis Jana had her little boy a week later on Fri Oct 2. She had a scheduled section just a week before her due date.



McKay Wamsley ( I think his middle name is Keith) was born Oct 2, 2009 he was 6 lbs 54 oz.

My other sister Jill was due Oct 26 but has had more issues with her pregnancy. She was actually diagnosed with fibroids before she got pregnant. One was the size of a large grapefruit, another a little smaller than a baseball, and then quite a few smaller ones as well. They thought this might make it difficult for her to conceive and were trying to figure out what to do about them when she found out she was preggo. (this is the sister that has only been married for 1 1/2 yrs and inherited 4 little boys- her husband's 1st wife died at 30 from breast cancer- the youngest was 10 months old)

So anyway, the biggest concern with her pregnancy has been the placement of the fibroids. At first they were worried about miscarriage, then they told her she was at higher risk for pre-term labor. Also, one of the fibroids was close to the cervix so her Dr said she would probably need to have a c-section, and that her incision would be "creative". They did an ultrasound a few weeks ago to check the fibroids and the baby's position a couple of weeks ago, and discovered she was still breech. Due to the fibroids, they couldn't turn her around, so everyone was hoping she would turn on her own.

Last Tues at 2:00 am, Jill's water broke, but her contractions weren't close or strong. They decided to take her to the small hospital in the town where they live rather than going all the way to the one she was supposed to deliver at 45 min away. (she didn't want to drive all that way just to be sent home...)As it turns out, that decision saved the baby's life.When they checked her at the hospital, they discovered she had a prolapsed cord (the cord came out first). So, they got one the phone with her doctor, packed her into an ambulance, and took her to the bigger hospital slanted head down at a 45 degree angle.

When she arrived they immediately put her out with general anesthesia (faster that way) and did a c-section. Kristine was born healthy at 4:30 am.She talked with her Dr later and found out more details. Like that most babies with a prolapsed cord end up stillborn because the cord gets crimped and the baby can't get oxygen. And, the fact fact that she was breech ended up being a very good thing. Because of her position, she couldn't engage in the pelvis, which would have crimped the cord... And that the fibroid next to Jill's cervix provided a channel where the cord could lay without getting crimped. The Dr said if any of these conditions had been different, we would be having a funeral...

Moral of the story= God is good. What may seem like adversity can truly be a blessing in disguise!
