Her invitations were all in "piratey talking" as she called it. And we rolled them up inside a bottle for delivery. The whole family and all of the guests dressed like pirates. Since it was raining outside we had to do the party inside. Unfortunately that meant they didn't get to dig for buried treasure as I'd planned, but they did get to do a treasure hunt that ranged through EVERY room of the house (including the garage and basement...)
We also played "Ship, Ship, Pirate" (yes, that is duck duck goose....) and pin the treasure on the treasure map. One of the favorites was the pirate talking lessons conducted by Captain Itchy Eyes aka Tim.
This was one of Alix's very favorite gifts. We have tried reading the scriptures every night, and at times have done much better than others. We had gotten out of the habit until we had the missionaries over for dinner. They challenged us to read together everyday, even if it is only a little bit. Since then if Tim and I forget, Alix always reminds us. Even when we get home late and are almost two hours past bedtime, she won't let us go to bed without reading a few verses. The bad part of this is that she wants to carry around my scriptures or Tim's. (both of which are fairly large) She tries to be careful with them, but isn't always successful as they are too heavy for her. Aunt Julie (and Jeff, Cameron, Katie, and Emily) got her a Book of Mormon of her own along with a journal to write in. She is very excited!
This is Alishaundra's treasure cake complete with candy necklaces, ring pops, sugar pearls, and gold pieces (butterscotch candies)
Once most of the guests had gone home (just cousins were left) Alix pulled out one of her gifts- as set of washable paints. Bethany, Alix, Miriam, and Katie had a great time making a mess :)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEETIE!!!
